The best way to get involved is to come along to the rides and bring all your friends. The more the merrier! See Events for details.
If you want to do more to help, here are some ideas.
Promote the events
The larger ridership each Critical Mass event has, the stronger the message becomes and the more lively the rides become.
- Invite your friends, family, neighbours, coworkers, classmates etc. to join the rides.
- Share news and information, photos and videos of the events on social media.
- Print and distribute posters and flyers. Use postcard size (A6) for flyers and laminated A3 for posters. You can get these in PDF and other formats using the download link below.
- Provide a scrap bike to which posters can be attached in public places for a week or two before the ride. (Bikes in working order can be donated to Life Cycle UK.)
- Send us a message to be featured on this website—see Voices and Reviews.
Write to your local MP or councillor
Local councillors who support Critical Mass can be of significant help in promoting these events . Be pro-active and get your local council on-board.
Music playlist suggestions
We are always looking for new music to play during the rides. You can check out our playlist on Spotify. If you have any suggestions, please send them to info@criticalmassderby.org.uk.
The usual route starts through Derby’s Market Place where 1997 No. 1 single Your Woman by White Town was filmed, so this song plays first.
The playlist is made up of various kinds of music and includes tracks by well-known artists out of Derby, such as Blur’s lead guitarist Graham Coxon who grew up in Spondon.
There are a few songs which are frequently played at Critical Mass events, including:
- Bike Rider ft. Pupajim — Mungo’s Hi Fi
- Our Streets — Dan Abrahams (“a protest song about reclaiming road space for bicycles”)
- Bicycle Race — Queen
